The What Works Centre for Local Economic Growth worked with a number of local areas to understand the issues and challenges around building an effective local industrial strategy.

As more places follow the three ‘trailblazer’ areas this roundtable was a chance to discuss what the government expectation of the strategy is and what this means for places with representatives from Whitehall’s Cities and Local Growth Unit.

It also provided a chance to explore in detail, with the Centre’s Director Professor Henry Overman, our 10 principles to designing and delivering an effective local industrial strategy.

This was one of three events inviting local policymakers and practitioners to pose questions as they begun to design local industrial strategies. The others were in Bristol and Newcastle.
